Mary’s royal dignity and royal power are based on her close union with Christ, the Redeemer. She is the Mother of the King and God, and therefore shares in the royal dignity of her Son. Because God the Father gave her to Christ the Redeemer to cooperate in His work of Redemption, she is rightly called Co-Redemptrix. Christ is King by virtue of his nature and saving death; Mary is Queen by grace through Christ. The authority of Mary the Queen is authority over the Heart of Christ the King, who, out of love for her, bows down and hears her prayers, which she presents to Him for us and for the salvation of our souls.
Mary has authority over us, whom she has adopted as her children and
whom she desires to lead and conform to Christ.
Mary’s royal power miraculously intervenes in the course of the world and the laws of nature, healing illnesses and preventing accidents. Witnesses to this are Częstochowa, Lourdes, Fatima, Loreto, and so many Marian pilgrimage sites famous for their thousands of votive off erings. “Mary helped!” These are remarkably consistent witnesses to Mary’s royal power. Mary’s royal rule is a maternal and superior authority over the Holy Church, dioceses, parishes, families, and religious congregations. We, as Knights, must remember this, especially now, when there are so many attempts to diminish Mary’s role not so much by the laity, but by the highest hierarchy. Now we have a very important task: to defend with all our might the honour of the Immaculate Virgin, her titles and privileges, and to present Mary’s miraculous work in the world.
